INVITATION TO KLANG CHURCH SEMINAR ON SCRIPTURALLY HANDLING CHURCH ISSUES AND CONFLICTS
INVITATION TO KLANG CHURCH SEMINAR ON SCRIPTURALLY HANDLING CHURCH ISSUES AND CONFLICTS, Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 March 2026
Yeow Chin Kiong
One of the many tribulations Christians face (John 16:33) is the occasional issue or conflict that erupts within the church of Christ. Matters of questionable belief and behavior among the brethren can result in division among us, contra 1 Corinthians 1:10, if not scripturally handled. I wholeheartedly recommend that Subang Jaya brethren attend this two-day seminar,- the Sunday session being held after our worship and Bible Study hours,- conducted by brother Kwan Tai Choom of the Lim Ah Pin congregation in Singapore.
Brother Kwan is a tried-and-true stalwart of the cause of Jesus Christ. During his over four decades of evangelistic ministry in God's kingdom work in Singapore, Malaysia and other Asian countries, brother Kwan has gained vast exoerience in applying God's word to very difficult situations, bringing fruitful handling of congregational problems and overcoming potential division within the brotherhood. I heartily recommend our young, upcoming leaders not waste this opportunity to hear his tboughts and scriptural exposition on the proper resolution of church problems BEFORE they encounter such problems in their own turf!
The New Testament has much to say about internal causes of division in the church: Acts 20: 28-31; Romans 16:17-20; 2 Thessalonians 3:13-15; 2 Timothy 4:1-5; 2 John 9-11 are only some of the warnings in God's word. It is not a topic Christians like to preach about from our pulpits but we have been adequately forewarned by inspired scripture what can happen if we don't.
Although the churches of Christ are autonomous, each responsible for handling the word of God aright (2 Timothy 2:15) to test and prove all things and hold fast to that which is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21), the faithful should encourage and support one another in contending for the singular faith once for all delivered to us (Jude 3). The upcoming seminar with bro Kwan will go a long way in preparing faithful hearts and minds to "speak the truth in love" (Ephesians 4:15, 25) to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:3).
I would urge every brother and sister of the Subang Jaya congregation to attend this very important occasion of Bible study conducted by a brother who has devoted almost his entire life warning, edifying and exhorting the churches of Christ. You might one day just find yourself on one side or the other of an issue which has the potential of dividing the church. Hear brother Kwan on how to prepare to scripturally navigate safely through such an occasion!
