Who are the churches of Christ?
We are a non-denominational church that believes there is only one church founded on Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 3:10-11). We seek to practice Christianity as closely as possible to the New Testament faith of first century Christians.
We speak where the Bible speaks and remain silent where the Bible is silent (Deuteronomy 4:2, Revelation 22:18-19).
We call ourselves the 'church of Christ' (COC) because this is the name by which the churches of the first century referred to themselves (Romans 16:16). There are local churches of Christ all over the world.

Frequently Asked Questions
1 / Who leads the church of Christ?
Jesus Christ is the leader of the church, but in each local congregation, elders and deacons (in the plural) may serve the church provided they meet the qualifications in 1 Timothy 3:1-12. Elders are overseers who serve under the headship of Christ, while deacons support the elders.
2 / Do you use instrumental music in the church?
We do acapella singing in our worship, unaccompanied by musical instruments, imitating the music used in the early church (Ephesians 5:19). The New Testament does not specify the requirement of musical instruments for worship and for this reason, we do not use it.
3 / Do you practice infant baptism?
No. Only those who have reached the 'age of accountability' are accepted for baptisms, based on examples in the New Testament where baptisms have only ever taken place after one is old enough to hear and understand the gospel in order to believe it.
4 / Does the church of Christ celebrate Christmas?
No. As Christians in the New Testament were never recorded to have celebrated Christmas, we also do not celebrate it.
5 / What happens at a church of Christ Sunday service?
Here is what a typical Sunday service looks like:
-
Singing hymns (throughout) (Colossians 3:16)
-
Opening prayer (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
-
Scripture reading
-
Sermon (Ephesians 4:11-13)
-
The Lord's Supper* (1 Corinthians 11: 23-26, Acts 20:7)
-
Collection* (1 Corinthians 16:2)
-
Closing prayer

*The Lord's Supper and collection are commandments given specifically to Christians, so non-Christians are not required to take part in this portion of the service.
6 / How do I become a member of the church of Christ?
We always rejoice with the angels when someone makes the choice to become a Christian (Luke 15:10)!
Here are the six steps to salvation:
-
Hear the gospel of God’s gift of salvation to all mankind. (Mark 16:15)
-
Believe that Jesus Christ died for us so you may have eternal life. (John 3:16)
-
Repent of your sins and seek to walk in a new life with God. (Acts 3:19)
-
Confess the Lord Jesus is Saviour and that God has raised Him from the dead. (Romans 10:9)
-
Be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins. (Acts 2:38)
-
Stay faithful till your last days, trusting and obeying Christ till the end. (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
