Evangelism Seminar 2026
Evangelism Seminar 2026 - Opening
Bro Yeow Chin Kiong | Friday, 1 May 2026 | Organised by the Subang Jaya church of Christ
Brethren and friends, welcome to Evangelism Seminar 2026, with all gratitude to our Father in heaven for enabling us to assemble online to consider opportunities and challenges to bringing the gospel to the world (Mark 16:15) in our time.
Each year, on May 1, a Labour Day public holiday in Malaysia if it falls during work days, the Subang Jaya church of Christ brings together evangelists and missionaries toiling in God's kingdom as far away from our shores as the African continent to remind us of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20).
This year, we have two alumni of Four Seas College of Bible and Missions, Singapore, to encourage us,- and be encoureged themselves: brother Tammy anak Gani who serves in Kampung Sabal Kruin and surrounding kampungs in Sarawak and brother Emelito Vellates Solon who serves in Santo Tomas in Davao Del Norte of the Philippines.
As we listen to our two brothers, please bear in mind both have dedicated themselves to be sent to places which are remote from the luxuries of where we live, so that souls can hear God's word (Romans 10:13-15). Both brothers have families to feed, clothe and shelter, and we have the responsibility to aid and encourage them as they sweat in their respective mission fields. This includes contributing financial sustenance, for they preach the gospel full-time and therefore should "live of the gospel" (1 Corinthians 9:3-14).
At present, bro Tammy is supported by the Subang Jaya and Section 17 congregations, while bro Emelito is supported by the Section 17 congregation. We invite brethren from other Malaysian congregations to join our two congregations to support bro Tammy and brother Emelito in cash and kind, and in encouraging them in their work for our Lord. Both brethren send periodic reports of the fruits of their labour to the Subang Jaya and Section 17 churches but will also send them to other congregations on request. The Subang Jaya brethren can be the conduit of aid to brother Tammy and the Section 17 brethren have been an efficient and effective liaison with brother Emelito.
So, brethren, let us give our full attention to our two brethren. Our theme for this year’s Seminar is taken from Acts 15:3, which describes the “great joy” among the brethren in the churches of Phoenicia and Samaria when they heard from Paul and Barnabas about the conversion of the Gentiles. We are going to hear about something similar from nearer our Peninsular!
As opportunities present themselves to us, let is imitate them as they imitate Christ in bringing God's word to lands far and near or at least support them monetarily as they do so.
May we all rejoice at the end of the Seminar, and give all glory to God (1 Corinthians 10:31).
